Read With Me:
13%: "'I never… I never wanted war. But I didn’t do enough to stop it. I failed.'" – Asher Vane, Prince of Pride.
Boohoo. Sounds whiny, manipulative and childish to me.
And Fae, dear, you are not better.
44.4%: "Asher and King Lucian stand in the corner, engaged in a heated discussion. Twice I have heard them shout my name." – Arianna Spero.
I hate king Lucian, he seems manipulative with warped perspective on the world and how it works, and because of his "ideals" (which he openly shows but I don't buy that he actually believes in) he makes everybody else seem bad. He twists everything he touches and he's abusive. Preaches love and peace and equality, but if you don't do as he wants you will feel the wrath of his hand. Fuck this guy.
48%: "'Have you considered why I did not make you my bride? … When I remember what you are, my entire being fills with hate. … I have no interest in peace. …'" – King Lucian.
I told you!! Lucian is a snake and should die an excruciating death.
57.8%: "Does he know I am Fae?" – Arianna Spero about Fenris Vane.
You know he knows you're high Fae after he drank your blood… Asher told you that.
59.6%: "It would be interesting to learn more about the medicines here." – Arianna Spero, Midnight Star.
Ohh! World building tease. Will we learn about this aspect in this world? Medicines, potions, herbs, healing, the abilities and the disabilities of it, pros, cons, something?
Spoiler – we don’t.
76%: "Oren laughs within the phoenix. ' Even Yami has abandoned you. Now, there is no reason for you to live, princess.' He spits the title like a slur." – Oren, The Fire Druid to Arianna Spero.
I hope he'll get hurt real bad. Haven’t people heard of the concept of being polite?
82%: "'No matter what happens tomorrow, Asher, you are, and always will be, my Karasi.'" - Varis, The Air Druid, to Asher Vane.
I knew it, I knew it... Of course this is the history of Varis and Asher, and I love it!
Updates: Lucian - die
Levi, dean, salzar - die
Fen - be less swayed by your emotions please
Oren and the water - die
Niam - with a bit of faith you can get better
Ace - be well
Where is the dragon?
Where is the earth spirit?
War is for the fool, the mean, the stubborn, the one with the narrow vision.
83.6%: "'… you must choose who you are. Are you the Midnight Star, sent to save your people? Or are you a pawn of the demons, aiding them in killing and enslaving our kind? Who will you be?'
Her words fade and her body turns to mist, disappearing into the night" –Metsi, The Water Druid.
A fucking drama queen. I'm just so dumbfounded by those "old" characters acting so childish. The world is not black or white.
87.7%: "Zeb, Niam and Asher all agree as well. Levi frowns,…" – Arianna spero.
Did they make Levi's character only for us to hate? Is he here only to be opposed to everything?!
87.7%: "I call a shade [half Fae, half vampire] boy over and tell him what his orders are. …his actions will help save princess Arianna, and his eyes light up. He will do as I ask, …" - Fenris Vane, Prince of War.
How is it you are royalty an rulers for something like forever and your people don’t like or trust you? That's a really bad sign.
Also, how can you trust someone (ahem, Lucian) who his best advisor is someone as vile as Salzar?!
88.3%: "At the mention of Ace, everyone's mod turns from frustration to grief. Levi seems the most affected, …" – Arianna Spero.
Why
And also, do you have a heart, Levi?
88.9%: "'Why don't I remember any of this?'" – Fenris Vane.
Do I need to remember this? Does it mean anything?
90.6%: "'your beast hurt my spirit. You owe me blood and pain, and I have come to collect.'" – Oren, The Fire Druid.
You will die lonely and suffering, knowing every aspect of your life was a mistake. I hate you.
91.8%: "The Fire Druid seems mad with power and vengeance." – Arianna Spero.
Aren't old beings grow and learn? Become wise?
And aren't chosen ones by powerful beings supposed to be extra wise? Because they aren't.
Every move Oren chooses to perform is very stupid, showing how childish, light headed he is. Can't master the consequences of his actions.
How is he the fire druid?
92.4%: "How did Madrid ever love this monster?" – Arianna Spero about Oren.
A very good question.
97.7%: "I do not understand." – Fenris Vane about the new revelation.
I knew it! He was too smart to be only a wolf!
My Review:
Well, you managed to make me like the ending so much. There was setup all along the book (why is Fen the strongest of the brothers, Baron being so smart, Fen not remembering the memory)...
But... The book infuriated me, I was so angry, Oren, king Lucian, Levi, Dean, Niam, some of the actions...
And the writing! After the first book not answering how the world works, I came to the second book hoping.. and getting so much more new information that fell out of no where.
I just don't manage to understand, how such magical beings, living for so long, are so impotent? How is that possible? Couldn't you learn a bit of life lessons along the way?! They act like children!
And the plot structure is lacking. We go from here to there, and if I need to recollect what happened, what is the plot progression I truly have no answer, and I read the entire book in a few hours.
The writing still has problems that I saw in the first book, the dialogue and speech pattern is odd and not consistent, and the descriptive parts are sometimes tiring, and boring at times.
Is it just me that when characters I like get hurt I am not really worried or invested?
This book came from 0 to 100 really fast, and therefore it made me feel two things:
- the consequences are almost nonexistent.
- what will happen in the next 5 books? How much higher will they try to bring my adrenaline levels to? How will they do it? How quick will the actions border on ridiculous?
Also, why did they explain what is "Karasi" after everytime they said it? We get it. it means "spirit of the heart", one true love... Why did you explain it everytime? How dumb do you think your readers are?
It just made me feel less invested. I was very aware of what happened, some things of the writing process as well.
3 stars out of 5 stars
And still, I'm about to start the third in a bit. See you there.
Alice, YF.
